A protester grips a photo of Jina (Mahsa) Amini in one hand and a lock of her own hair in the other, shouting her name in anger, demanding justice.

Following Jina’s death, hundreds took to the streets of San Francisco in solidarity with protesters in Iran, condemning the government’s violent crackdown. As chants filled the air, some women cut their hair—an act that had become a powerful symbol of resistance, both inside Iran and across the world.
